The International Clinical Trial Day is commemorated on 20 May. First from the Clinical Trials Unit of the Neurology Service of the Regional Hospital of Malaga - IBIMA: THANK YOU to those who participate in clinical trials, the whole research team, the promoters, the entities and institutions that make it possible for all this work to contribute a grain of sand to improve the quality of life of others. Clinical trials provide the opportunity for certain patients who meet the requirements for early access to treatments that would otherwise take years to market. Therefore, the participation of these people makes it possible to advance the investigation of new drugs, allowing to discover new aspects of the sick. As today in 1747, Scottish doctor James Lind performed the first clinical trial in history. In Salisbury, Lind divided twelve sailors with scurvy into six couples, each of whom received a different diet. The sailors who took lemons improved. Since then, clinical research has allowed many lives to be saved and improved. On this International Day of Clinical Trials, it is interesting to recall the legislation in force in our country on this issue. The fundamental rule of this type of study is Royal Decree 1090/2015 of 4 December, which regulates clinical trials with medicines, ethical research committees with medicines and the Spanish Clinical Trials Registry. This legislation undoubtedly made it possible to make great strides in this direction. Not in vain, Spain was the first European country to incorporate the content of European legislation into national law. For example, some of the major changes introduced by the Royal Decree of 2015 were the simplification of the procedures necessary for the realization of a clinical trial, as well as the reduction in the time required for the initiation of the same. Contact with your Trial Unit to report on the clinical trials that are open and obtain information about them.
